In today’s economic times, employees are reluctant to report an accident, thinking the pain will resolve in a few days. Keep in mind you must be able to prove you told your supervisor about the accident within the thirty (30) day deadline. Worker’s compensation income benefits should commence after your second week of disability and with three weeks of disability, the first week will be paid also. By law, the worker’s compensation insurer is to pay you two-thirds (2/3) of your gross pay (before any deductions), with a maximum weekly benefit of $500.00.

Effective January 1, 2009, the Georgia legislature enacted a statute to allow you to elect to have your UM coverage to always be in excess of that provided by the other driver. This selection costs only a few dollars a year, but allows you to collect from both the other driver, assuming he has minimum BI limits, and the full value of your UM policy at the same time. Also in this issue, learn that with Medical Payments Coverage the expense of your treatment is covered 100% up to the policy limits of your Med-Pay coverage.
